The Nativity fasting period began on Monday, November the 15th 2016. During this fasting period, we abstain from meat, meat products, fish, dairy products, oil and wine on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Fish*, oil and wine are permitted on the other days of the week: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. This is a general fasting rule which has been set by the fathers of our holy church; however everyone must consult with their spiritual father for their own personal fasting rule. The fast ends on the feast day of the Nativity of Christ, Sunday December the 25th, 2016.
*fish is permitted from the feast day of the Entrance of the Theotokos on the 21st of November until the feast day of Saint Eleutherios on Thursday the 15th of December 2016.
