This is a very good book if you are interested in becoming spiritual. I would share a copy with any of my neighbours in my community. I find it a classic that will always be in my small library. Definitely in the top of the Ephraim book collection. Truly inspiring the way she lived her life, which she only departed from 31 years ago. It is highly relevant to today. She explained the complex concept of obedience very clearly. Accordingly, "Did what (your elder) say seem wrong? No matter if it seemed ambiguous, undiscerning, or unjust, if they said it, that's it," further, "whether or not it was fair, (your spiritual elder) will give an account before God," (Gerondissa Makrina, 2018, p. 87). This means that Makrina's loyalty was to spiritual progress through obedience rather than loyalty to one elder. As stated in the book, "whoever is obedient will prosper" mentally, emotionally, and spiritually (Gerondissa Makrina, 2018, p. 244). Additionally, "when a person says the (Jesus) prayer, he cannot show off, shout, or talk," as "the grace of God makes him meek and humble" (Gerondissa Makrina, 2018, p. 94). What a great solution for improving the quality of social interactions in Canada in 2026 and on. It is very rare and lucky to have this book available in Canada.
