General View of Greek Orthodox Monastery of the Virgin Mary the Consolatory

About Us

Our Holy Monastery of Virgin Mary the Consolatory is the first Greek Orthodox monastery in Quebec, under the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada. Founded in 1993 by Elder Ephraim, a disciple of Saint Joseph the Hesychast, our monastery holds a rich spiritual heritage in the Orthodox faith and monasticism. Initially established in difficult conditions, two nuns migrated from a historic monastery in Greece to transform an old farm into a place of divine devotion and tranquility.

Located in the breathtaking Laurentians, our monastery covers 235 acres of dense forest. The property, once in ruins, has been meticulously restored through the loving sacrifice and hard work of our growing sisterhood and dedicated volunteers. Today, guided by Abbess Thekla, our community of 27 nuns engages in farm-agricultural work, cheese making, and handcrafting, while warmly welcoming visitors and embracing the teachings of Christ.

Come and witness the transformed beauty of our monastery, experience the serenity it offers, and immerse yourself in our Orthodox traditions.
